I developed this workshop knife for a violin maker (luthier) in Germany, who needed a very sharp edge capable of handling a variety of woods (from the soft spruce, to maple and hard ebony), without getting blunt or chipping. Going simply with a hard or soft blade was not an option, it had to combine both qualities in one blade.

The solution was to forge weld a very thin veneer of extremely hard and edge retaining aogami (blue paper steel) #1 into a body of soft wrought iron for toughness. The thinness of the hard layer guarantees proper support from the iron even with a very shallow bevel, but needless to say, makes the aligning of the edge a matter of great precision.

A performance knife for the finest of works, balancing functionality and aesthetics; guaranteed a cherished place in the arsenal of any craftsman.

Surface left rough from the forge, edge sharpened to razor-sharp. Handle is wrapped in rattan and the rear has a copper lined hole for hanging.

Comes with a birch bark sheath to protect the precious edge.

About 62-64 HRC.
